THE SECOND CITY DOES ARIZONA, OR CLOSE, BUT NO SAGUARO
Presented by Arizona Theatre Company
Tucson: April 3 – 24, 2010
Phoenix: April 29 – May 16, 2010
Talk about a stimulus package! From sagebrush to Sheriff Joe, from Green Valley to kokopelli– it’s time to batten down the barrel cactus because we’ve invited The Second City to Arizona to do a no-holds-barred world premiere comedy revue all about us. Famous for their hilarious sketch comedy and for their equally famous alumni (Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Gilda Radner and a whole slew of others), The Second City is turning their photo radar on the Grand Canyon State, and aiming their tee-shots at the land of prairie dogs and snow birds. We’re joining with this troupe of expert Chicago comedians to create a comedy about the special challenges of the high life in the low desert. It’s a guaranteed evening of recession-proof fun and high-mileage laughter — and which of us couldn’t use a lot more of that right now? Tickets here.

Developed in the early 1980s by Tony Award-winners Maury Yeston (Nine, Titanic) and Arthur Kopit (Nine), the Yeston/Kopit Phantom – like Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera – was based on Gaston Leroux’s immortal tale of a desperate young man, born and raised in the catacombs under the Paris Opera House, and the girl whom he adores. With a lush and compelling score, Phantom is an American musical that has captivated audiences worldwide in over one thousand independent productions, with rave reviews from Variety and The Wall Street Journal. A new day has begun.

Sun at 6pm or 2pm (alternating)
We close our 11th Season in June with the Arizona Premiere of EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL. Based on the Sam Raimi movies Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness this campy, quirky musical is really just an old story, as familiar as the fingers on your hand. Instead, they awaken an ancient, slumbering evil, and one by one they die in horrible ways… And return to life as zombies… And occasionally burst into song. Recommended for mature audiences with immature tastes. Front row not recommended for anyone wearing WHITE. Tickets here!
